Inspiring Industry's Strategic Research
Page Content
Strategic research aims to support industry and its stakeholders in the delivery of 'step changes' in industry strategy within 30 years, as outlined in the Rail Technical Strategy.
It can be characterised as:
- Concentrating on defined but broad-ranging subjects where it is possible to identify a need for improvement, but not necessarily the specific solutions
- Addressing complex, multi-facetted problems
- Likely to require innovative approaches
- Areas where implementation may be many years ahead
- Likely to involve complex modelling and/or proof of concept
- Typically requiring strong industry collaboration
RSSB manages the rail industry strategic research programme on behalf of TSLG, alongside the existing programme, both funded by the Department for Transport.
TSLG launched a consultation about the Rail Technical Strategy in Autumn 2010. You can find this and more information at www.futurerailway.org.
What is TSLG?
The Technical Strategy Leadership Group (TSLG) was established to support the development, challenge, communication and delivery of the Rail Technical Strategy. TSLG is a cross-industry group facilitated by RSSB and is the industry client group for strategic research which will support this aim.
What makes TSLG distinct is that it's not responsible for implementing or planning rail technology over the short- or mid-term, but has a remit to address future opportunities over a 30-year horizon.
