Industry Secondments

RSSB has enabled industry professionals who have a training background, the opportunity for personal development of their knowledge and skills by offering a period of secondment into RSSB.

This model of continued professional development was introduced in the summer of 2006 and has enabled RSSB to have direct industry input on the review and drafting of various Good Practice Guides in support of standards development.

The usual period of secondment is of three months duration, subject to the specific industry project that will be worked on, supported by a set of objectives from both the employee’s company and RSSB.

There have been secondments from Southeastern, Southern, South West Trains and Virgin West Coast. Each secondee has drafted the RS/ 220, 221, 501, 701, 702 Good Practice Guides in conjunction with RSSB industry specialists.

There is also the opportunity during the secondment period to contribute to the research programme as a technical advisor offering input to the development and delivery of various research projects.
