Research and Development

The Workforce Development team provides technical leadership and advice to research projects in the Workforce Development and Competence topic.

We also work on joint projects in the areas of Operations and Human Factors, when workforce development has a direct relevance.

Outputs from completed projects are available for download from the RSSB website

Research has covered areas such as driver licensing, trainer competence and training management, use of technology-based training, adult learning, a review of driver training, assessment and verification, skills fade and the use of simulators.

If you feel that RSSB should carry out a detailed research project into any area or aspect of the railway, please submit your idea on the ‘Research Idea’ form which can be downloaded from the RSSB website.
