Confidential Incident Reporting and Analysis System

CIRAS is the confidential incident reporting system for the rail industry. Anyone who works on or near the line can contact CIRAS with a safety concern.

CIRAS complements existing company reporting channels, it does not replace them. Most companies have their own internal reporting systems, and staff is encouraged to use them. However, if, for whatever reason, staff would prefer to report their concerns to CIRAS, the issue will be raised with the employer in complete confidence. It is necessary for all reporters to give their details to CIRAS to ensure that the system is not being abused but those details will not be passed on to the employer.

Because CIRAS is confidential, it collects data which might be missed by more conventional systems. As well as giving a channel to resolve individual concerns, the anonymised data in CIRAS can be analysed in order to pinpoint trends, helping companies improve their safety procedures for the benefit of everyone who works in the industry.
