Community SafetyCommunity Safety Projects The RSSB's National Programmes, Railway Operations team assist the industry by providing a support service. Part of the service is the provision of communications to ensure that good practice is spread throughout the industry. This is achieved through dedicated websites, newsletters, workshops, etc. Some of the services are detailed below: Community Safety E-Newsletter The Community Safety e-newsletter ‘UPDATE’, is a monthly e-newsletter produced by RSSB, in support of the industry's efforts to address rail related community safety issues. UPDATE is a tool for promoting awareness of current initiatives and encouraging the adoption of good practice. If you have any stories to share about initiatives or events in your area, would like to provide feedback on this issue, or would like to subscribe to UPDATE please contact: community.safety@rssb.co.uk or 020 7904 7674 Please follow the link to all issues of Community Safety E-Newsletters Annual Community Safety Forum RSSB, on behalf of the industry organises the Annual Railway Community Safety Forum. This year's event took place on Wednesday 19 March It combined an engaging mix of workshops and presentations as well as a comprehensive exhibition to showcase the wide range of initiatives and activities the rail industry is investing in and to encourage community safety practitioners to share good practice. If you are interested in attending, please contact: community.safety@rssb.co.uk or 020 7904 7674 Community Safety Education Trackoff Trackoff is an educational website owned and funded by RSSB. The aim of the website is to provide railway safety educational resources to schools and organisations working with children and young people. The resources are aimed at supporting classroom activities through the National curriculum. These can be accessed through http://www.trackoff.org MusicTraX MusicTraX was a national programme developed by RSSB, which exploits the key role that music plays in young people’s lives. The aim of MusicTraX was to harness youngsters’ interest in music of all kinds - whether listening to or making it - while conveying core railway community safety messages through a specially devised websites. It featured competitions for music makers - a sort of ‘Pop Idol’ online with the winning entry being given the chance to record their track. Other features included music articles, reviews, links with official music download sites, e-zines and music events. As of March 2008, NorthernTrax has taken over running the programme which can be accessed via the very successful http://www.northerntrax.net website. NorthernTrax has been running alongside MusicTrax since its launch and in June 2006, leading professionals from the music industry selected Wakefield based ‘The Humour’ as the winners of the NorthernTraX 'Make it Big' music competition. As part of their prize, the four-piece band travelled to Liverpool’s Elevator Studios to have their music professionally recorded and engineered. No Messin No Messin! is a programme of diversionary activities organised by Network Rail every summer in railway crime hotspot areas. No Messin! aims to give youngsters new interests which will deter them from inappropriate behaviour involving the railway. http://www.no-messin.com/ Working with football authorities A Train Operator Footbal Alliance (TOFA, chaired by ATOC) and a Rail Football Forum (RFF, chaired by the Football Association) have been set up to discuss issues around transporting fans to football matches. The TOFA comprises the train operating groups, with Network Rail, BTP and ORR. The RFF comprises TOFA, FA, football leagues, football supporter organisations, the Home Office, the UK Football Policing Unit and BTP. RFF has agreed a list of priorities to tackle, which include better communication of kick-off times, train timetables and engineering works, as well as identifying ways to improve the behaviour of some fans on the trains. This is an ATOC project, financed by RSSB (National Programmes). For more information, please contact Maurice Wilsdon at community.safety@rssb.co.uk |
