National ProgrammesThe Rail Safety and Standards Board's (RSSB's) National Programmes team exists to help the industry to pursue improvements in major risk areas. The group facilitates cross-industry groups that are focused on understanding the causes of the risks and introducing measures that will lead to risk reductions. Each of the groups is allocated a programme manager from the team who provides an administrative service to the group and who also manages projects and tasks arising from the group's activity. The service includes the provision of communications support to ensure that good practice is spread throughout the industry. This is achieved through a variety of outputs including dedicated websites, newsletters, video programmes, workshops, etc. Membership of the groups is relevant to the specific initiatives. In addition to rail industry companies, external bodies such as Government departments, Passenger Focus, trades unions and the British Transport Police are represented on some groups. The groups are not permanent fixtures. Many form to address specific issues and then disband when the objectives have been achieved or when channels for delivery have become established. The current areas supported by the National Programmes team are detailed in the left hand navigation bar.
