Frequently Asked QuestionsWho determines what's in Railway Group Standards?Standards Committees, on behalf of the industry, are responsible for taking decisions in relation to the content of Railway group standards (RGSs), in line with rules set out in the Railway Group Standards Code agreed with the rail industry and the Office of the Rail Regulation. Any interested party may submit a proposal to create a new RGS, or th revise or withdraw an existing RGS. RSSB checks proposals received against the Code to ensure they are suitable for consideration. Proposals are then submitted to the relevant Standards Committee(s) for approval for furthur work to be undertaken. If the proposal is adopted (with or without modification), RSSB will prepare a draft document involving expertise from industry as required. When a final draft is ready and approved by the Standards Committee, it will be widely circulated to industry as part of the consultation process. When the responses from consultation have been addressed, the relevant Standards Committee(s) then approves the responses and subsequently the final draft RGS. RSSB supervises the process to ensure it achieves its purpose, and in the event of a serious delay or deviation from the code, is obliged to intervene in the process. |
