Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat if my company cannot comply with a particular Railway Group Standard? Standards Committees review and approve or reject applications for 'deviations' from Railway Group Standards (RGSs). A deviation is a permission to comply with a specified alternative to a measure or measures in a RGS circumstances where it is not appropriate to change the relevant RGS. Such a deviation may be approved where the applicant can demonstrate that it is not reasonable, in the particular circumstances, to comply with the existing RGS on either a temporary or a permanent basis. The Railway Group Standards Code defines the information that each applicant for a deviation will need to provide to the Standards Committee in support of their application, which includes the output from consultation with parties who may be affected by the proposed deviation. The deviation application forms are available from the RSSB website. Any queries about this matter should be directed to the RSSB enquiries desk on 020 7904 7518
