Responsibilities at Stations

This website contains guidance on responsibilities at stations. It summarises and brings together all the requirements from Railway Group Standards relevant to stations.

A search facility is provided which allows duty holders, and other interested parties, to view all requirements that apply to them or to look at specific areas of responsibility or interest.

The information held here replaces Guidance Note GE/GN8518, last published in February 2002. The information held on this website will be updated on a regular basis as changes occur to the requirements held in the underlying Railway Group Standards.

This website contains guidance which is applicable to the following categories of duty holder:

  • Infrastructure managers (formerly infrastructure controllers and station operators)
  • Railway undertakings (formerly train operators)

Note:
The categories of duty holder have been amended to be consistent with the Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 and The Railways (Interoperability) Regulations 2006.

It should be noted that for any particular requirement the role of infrastructure manager, responsible for managing and operating stations, may be undertaken by a train operating company, Network Rail or independent station operator.

The information that is held on this website provides guidance only and Railway Group members must satisfy themselves that they comply with the relevant requirements from all relevant standards or requirements applicable under the provisions of their safety management system.
