The Railway Strategic Safety Plan
2009-14
The Railway Strategic Safety Plan is a joint statement by the companies responsible
for Britain’s mainline rail network setting out an agreed industry approach
to managing safety.
This Plan has been developed by bringing together commitments made by industry companies
in their own individual safety plans, creating a linkage with the dutyholder planning
process.
In the Plan, trajectories have been developed which describe the industry’s
ambitions in nine identified key risk areas and explain the actions that are being
undertaken to achieve them. The majority of the trajectories in this document are
now quantitive in nature and these will be reviewed/updated in future annual reviews
of the plan to reflect improved available data and future performance trends.
