Vehicle/Structures

Contacts – Paul Gray; Stakeholder Support Manager - Nagina Webb

The V/S SIC provides a focus for the interface between vehicles and the fixed infrastructure in the areas of physical clearance (gauging) and vehicle loading (route availability). The V/S SIC was formed in September 2004, and is currently chaired by Tim Gilbert of Porterbrook.

The broad scope of the V/S SIC is to:

  • Continue the development and application of the industry knowledge of the gauge and load interaction between vehicles and the infrastructure.
  • Promote the visibility of the load and gauge capabilities of the infrastructure.
  • Develop vehicle gauges to exploit the latent potential of the network to meet commercial aspirations.
  • Develop processes for the economic evaluation of the network to meet industry requirements
  • Develop a vision of a credible and sustainable future capability for gauge and load.

The V/S SIC meets every six weeks to discuss the current issues surrounding the vehicle / structures interface and to propose system level solutions to the problems encountered.

Supporting the V/S SIC in this work is a sub group of cross industry experts.
