Tony Mercado of the Department for Transport is the chairman of the V/TE SIC. The V/TE SIC was formed in October 2007 as a result of the extension of the Vehicle/Traction Supply SIC's remit to look into energy issues.

The V/TE SIC replaced the V/TS SIC. The SIC has the following sub-groups:

• Future Fuels Technology Group (FFTG)
• Future Electrification Group (FEG)
• Diesel Metering Group (DMG)
