The new Rail Technical Strategy (RTS) focuses on five key priorities:

  • making rail easy to use
  • lowering emissions
  • optimising train operations
  • improving reliability and ease of maintenance
  • using data to drive efficiency and technical progress

These priorities are vital to the railway’s long-term success, and they rely on new technical solutions. The RTS includes a route map for each priority, combining the long-term vision with the steps and achievements needed in the short term.

To achieve the short- and longer-term goals set out on the strategy, the whole industry and supply chain will need to continue to work together and challenge itself on the pace of progress.

Join a working group

Working groups are monitoring each of the RTS functional priorities. They engage with industry and cross-industry groups to track progress, and capture and share who is doing what. If you are interested in joining a working group, email rts@rssb.co.uk

R&D co-ordination forums

Co-ordinations forums are held for each RTS priority twice per year. Forums present innovative projects and initiatives within the priority area, and are a chance to discuss overall progress and share ideas. See upcoming events on the RTS website.
