Developing Staff Competence for Managing Safety at the Platform Train Interface

Competent staff help to keep passengers safe at the platform train interface. To do this, organisations need to understand competence requirements, select a range of suitable methods, train managers, trainers and assessors and be able to determine the effect training has had on their staff and the performance of their business. 

There are different methods that can be used to develop the competence of staff in dealing with safety risks at the platform train interface (PTI). It is helpful to try and use a range of methods and identify the one which is most suitable for each. Some methods that can be used include:
