When it Comes to Managing Mental Health Can We Afford to Guess What Works?

The railway is a unique working environment which presents distinct risks and challenges to the workforce. We believe that investing in mental health training for line managers provides a valuable approach in creating a culture of positive mental wellbeing.
Providing the right training to our workforce is vital to support the understanding, management and promotion of mental health and wellbeing at work. It equips managers with more confidence in managing absence from work and the risks associated with stress at work. This not only benefits their direct reports but has positive implications for company productivity through potential reductions in absence due to mental health, reduced ‘presenteeism’ and decreased staff turnover.

Our face to face training, available for up to 16 attendees per session, has been informed by cutting edge research that we have undertaken in conjunction with Mind and the Institute for Employment Studies. The training has been developed by our chartered psychologists who have expertise in rail workforce mental health. RSSB are also collaborating with Mind to offer two e-learning packages with rail specific content at a reduced cost to industry. RSSB have created a Mental Health Awareness course for all staff available. For further information on either face to face or e-learning training, please contact training@rssb.co.uk.

‘It made me realise the signs to look out for in the office and that everyone’s actions may affect others even if not intentional and this can affect mental health.’ - a line manager who attended one of our Training for Line Manager’s.
