Have you updated your Rule Book?
Featured story

We’ve updated the Rule Book and other National Operations Publications.

Last weekend we updated the Rule Book with the reissue of 19 Handbooks, 27 Modules, requirements for movement of freight and dangerous goods (so called white and pink pages), and handbooks RS521 and RS522.The Rule Book is a vital safety document. It comprises a set of modules and handbooks which contain direct instructions for railway staff. It sets out the operational rules for application on the GB mainline railway, which are necessary to enable the safe and timely delivery of people and goods to their destination and to provide the framework to enable safe operations.

With the advent of more extensive national roll-out of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), particularly on the Thameslink, Great Western and East Coast routes, we’ve taken the opportunity to merge all the previous ERTMS rules into the National Rule Book modules and handbooks.

This has allowed us to withdraw 18 Modules and 2 Handbooks, reducing the overall number of documents and making it simpler for people to understand the rules that are relevant to their job.

If you use the Rule Book, make sure you familiarise yourself with the updates and that you are using the most up-to-date versions – especially if you have downloaded and use pdf versions of the documents, including the new Rule Book Manuals – you will need to download new copies to replace any older versions stored on your PCs and mobile device.
