Luisa Moisio, RSSB Head of Research and Development, is set to take over as Industry Co-Chair Rail Research UK Association (RRUKA) from RSSB Technical Director Colin Dennis when he retires at the end of October, to help further bridge the gap between academia and rail.
Luisa will join Academic Co-Chair, University of Birmingham’s Dr Stuart Hillmansen. She will be making her first mark co-chairing the fourth RRUKA Annual Conference on Thursday 5 November 2015.
Colin will bid farewell to the world of rail on Friday 23 October after a 25 year career in the industry. During his time at RSSB, Colin led the development of the industry's Safety Risk Model, an analysis tool regarded as a key factor in guiding risk reduction over the last 15 years. More recently, Colin has been overseeing the development of the R2 system, a new rolling stock records system that will replace existing legacy systems, providing a more cost-effective and streamlined way of keeping records about rail vehicles.
Colin commented: "I have seen many changes in the rail industry during my time which I believe RSSB has had a significant impact on. I am particularly proud of the Safety Risk Model which I developed with the RSSB team, as I believe this has made a real difference in managing safety across the industry.
"I wish all my colleagues throughout the industry well and will be leaving RRUKA in safe hands with Luisa in her exciting new role as Industry Co-Chair at RRUKA, a group which is doing a brilliant job at helping to nurture and drive young talent into the industry."
