For the past three years, the Rail Research UK Association (RRUKA) and IMeche Railway Division have joined forces in a bid to find the UK’s Best Young Railway Researcher. The nominations are now open for this year’s competition, with a £1000 prize for the winner.
Open to young rail professionals and early career researchers, this annual award celebrates the work of a single individual and the contribution they are making towards their organisation and the industry as a whole.
This is just one of the ways in which RRUKA is working to support the drive to nurture young talent in the rail industry. Taking part in the competition provides individuals with an opportunity to raise their profile within the UK rail research community, increasing awareness of their research and providing a platform for it to be presented to senior academics, key industry figures and decision makers.
Entrants can nominate themselves or a colleague (with their permission). As well as the cash prize, the winner is presented with a commemorative trophy, and is given dedicated slot at RRUKA’s Annual Conference, which will take place on 3 November in London.
Applicants are asked to provide an outline of a particular project / piece of work of relevance to rail, share details of the individual contribution made and other supporting activities (such as papers published, or other awards received for the work). A panel of industry experts will then meet to select this year’s winner.
