Rail has called on its independent industry body RSSB to amplify its thought leadership on core rail safety issues.
A review by ORR saw RSSB members and industry groups consulted to inform its report on the body’s direction, delivery and effectiveness. ORR found widespread support in Network Rail, train and freight operators, rolling stock leasing companies, contractors and suppliers for RSSB’s mission and quality of its work.
Now industry wants RSSB to build on its success and credibility as a centre of excellence by amplifying its voice on issues as the trusted source of informed research and evidence-based insight and analysis, particularly on safety, risk, systems, standards, reliability and efficiency.
Welcoming the report, RSSB Chief Executive, Mark Phillips said:
The regular review of RSSB’s focus and priorities is essential to us continuing to be relevant to today’s railway. We’d like to thank our members for their continued support and industry’s acknowledgement of the value that our independent insight and analysis brings to their work.
‘We also thank ORR for undertaking the five-yearly review and look forward to developing a stronger capability in thought leadership in safety and working with our members to give them even better support and continue to enable them to improve performance for rail users, drive efficiency and reduce risk.
