Trespass

Train travel is very safe, but the railway tracks themselves are not safe places. When people trespass on the railway, this can lead to life-ending or life-changing injuries, as well as heartache, trauma, and harm to family, friends and rail staff.  The message is simple: stay off the tracks.

The rail industry has a number of programmes in place designed to help explain the consequences of playing on the railway, and help people make the right choices and stay safe.

By sharing case studies and good practice, the rail industry has access to examples of ideas and initiatives that have been proven to work, providing inspiration for individual rail companies and avoiding the need to start from a blank sheet of paper.

The rail industry works together to monitor and analyse data about trespass risk, looking at the trends in incidents and sponsoring research to find answers to improve the way risk can be managed and reduced.

In partnership with the wider rail industry, the Trespass Improvement Programme (TIP) aims to reduce the number and impact of trespass incidents across the rail network.
