RED 55 - Electrification

In this issue, we look at the dangers from traction energy feeds. Our drama follows a driver who stops his train and leaves his cab to assess damage to a section of OLE. It’s dusk and, unable to see clearly, he is hit by an electrical charge. Against advice from Control, the train manger then leaves the train to help him.

The programme also covers:

  • The importance of correct procedures for safety-critical communications.
  • How small sections of traction power feed can now be controlled remotely from electrical control rooms.

As usual, there is an opportunity to win £100 in vouchers by answering the competition question. Please do encourage your colleagues to enter. They can email with their suggestion.
