Human Factors Strategy Group
‘Meaningful improvements in performance, safety, efficiency and reduction in costs comes thorough the effective integration of human factors in the rail system.
Our goal is to demonstrate the true value human factors can bring and facilitate the integration of human factors throughout the rail system from design and operation through to maintenance.
We aim to help build rail human factors capability and enable industry, with our support, to utilise the expertise, methods, tools and theories our discipline has to offer.
This collaboration will mean industry is able to overcome the range of challenges it faces now and, in the future, to deliver a safe, reliable and high performing railway.’
Scope
The scope of the group is human factors of the railway system from design through manufacture to operation and maintenance. As part of this we:
- Review human factors data and trends to provide early warning of emerging issues and maintain corporate human factors memory.
- Define and drive future direction through our high-level strategy and identify human factors work that should be a priority.
- Promote, communicate and demonstrate to industry the value and benefit of human factors.

The group’s membership is made up of the following representatives from key parts of the industry with recognised professional qualifications and experience in human factors.
