We're supporting the Railway Benefit Fund
We are delighted to announce the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) as our chosen charity of 2023. The RBF provides essential support to current or former railway employees, offering both financial assistance and practical solutions tailored to individual's circumstances. RBF provides both advice and help in confidence and without judgement and we are keen to be involved with RBF to do our part for the rail family.
We chose the RBF because we want to provide the best possible assistance to those within the industry who may be caught up in the current cost-of-living crisis across the country and it supports our Sustainable Rail Blueprint for a people-centred rail that maximises social value. We believe that by raising funds for RBF we can support them to help make a difference and promote a more compassionate rail community, which integrates sustainability.
Every year, RSSB colleagues vote to support a charity based on nominations received. This year we received 10 nominations and RBF received 20% of the votes – indicating the high level of support for this charity and its work to strengthen the railway community. Those who nominated RBF had glowing praise for the cause, citing its compassion and dedication to helping individuals connected to the railways. They highlighted the positive impact RBF has on members of the railway community and their families; providing a much needed helping hand in difficult times, showing true spirit within our industry.
RBF’s main priority is to raise money to support railway people and their families through various schemes, events and initiatives. Within RSSB, we plan to promote RBF's events, as well as run our own activities throughout the year in aid of fundraising. Last year, the charity Lives Not Knives received £1,200 through our efforts, however this year we are aiming to increase our fundraising to £3,500. Occupational related charities often struggle with raising funds or connecting with people, so we are keen to reach this goal. Every £200 raised can help support a family with the cost of living! With this target in mind, let’s work together towards achieving our fundraising goal!
To keep colleagues engaged, we’re preparing an internal calendar to provide details on our activities for the year. To increase engagement and open up a dialog within our industry, we plan on using social media to promote the RBF's actions and initiatives.
Our goal of raising £3,500 is a significant target, which is why we will be getting you all involved! Keep an eye out for how you too can make a difference and join us in helping support the rail family in times of needing assistance.
