Taiwan Transportation Safety Board builds investigation capability through RSSB training
Earlier this year, Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) visited RSSB's London offices to take part in bespoke Accident Investigation Training, building on the organisation's engagement as an RSSB affiliate.
As Taiwan's independent transport investigation authority, TTSB carries out impartial and professional occurrence investigations to improve transportation safety, support the safe and stable operation of the country's transport systems, and contribute to the sustainable development of the transportation industry.
Building capability through RSSB affiliation
To support this work, TTSB became an RSSB affiliate, gaining access to a wide range of industry knowledge, guidance, research, and expertise. Affiliation provides organisations around the world with opportunities to learn from Great Britain's rail industry, share best practice, and access resources that support safety improvement and operational excellence.
Bespoke training tailored to TTSB's needs
As part of its affiliation, TTSB sought to further develop its approach to occurrence investigation through specialist training tailored to its specific requirements. RSSB worked closely with the organisation to deliver a bespoke version of its Accident Investigation Training course at its London offices.
The training was designed to provide delegates with practical investigation techniques and methodologies that can be applied throughout the investigation process, from gathering and analysing evidence to identifying underlying causes and developing effective recommendations. Through a combination of expert-led learning, discussion, and real-world examples, participants explored approaches to conducting thorough and effective investigations that support organisational learning and continuous improvement.
Turning investigation principles into practical learning
The course was delivered by RSSB specialists Lee Shann, Senior Rail Operations Specialist, and Mark Kirton, Learning and Development Trainer. Together, they brought extensive experience across rail operations, training, and the development of safety-critical staff, helping to translate investigation principles into practical learning that reflected TTSB's objectives and operating environment.
By combining the benefits of RSSB affiliation with bespoke learning and development, the visit demonstrated how organisations can access specialist expertise, practical training, and industry knowledge to support their own safety objectives. For TTSB, the tailored training provided an opportunity to explore investigation approaches in greater depth while strengthening the relationship and knowledge-sharing opportunities available through RSSB affiliation.
