Human Factors Awareness
Course overview
This course aims to increase understanding and awareness of human factors and how it can be applied. Delegates receive knowledge of human factors techniques which help to identify a range of factors that can affect human performance. This knowledge can be applied to design and change management as well as part of an investigation.

Safety managers, operations managers, safety advisors and safety specialists, hazard analysts, regulators, inspectors, and human factors advisors.
It’s also relevant to those whose role includes accident incident investigation.

Trainers’ profiles
This course is delivered by two trainers, working with small groups of delegates. Our trainers have expertise with human factors in the rail sector and bring wider experience from other safety critical industries to the delivery.

Paul Leach, Head of Human Factors
Paul has a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Occupational Psychology and is a Registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council. Since 2008, Paul has developed and delivered training across many aspects of human factors, including leadership, safety culture, competence and psychometric assessment, incident investigation and non-technical skills. -
Anisha Tailor, Principal Human Factors Specialist
Anisha is a Chartered human factors specialist with seven years research experience, spanning rail, healthcare and road safety. She has a particular interest in the practical strategies that individuals can use to perform tasks safely and reliably. -
Alice Monk, Principal Human Factors SpecialistAlice is a Chartered member of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors with over 10 years' experience in applying ergonomics and human factors in the rail sector.

Julia Hobbley, Senior Human Factors SpecialistJulia has a BSc in Social Psychology and an MSc in Safety and Human Factors, with five years’ experience of applying this in safety-critical industries. She has developed and delivered a range of human factors training courses, including bespoke courses to a variety of audiences. Julia has experience with a variety of human factors methods and has a keen interest in incident investigation, safety culture and supporting projects to ensure that human factor risks are identified and managed.
Bespoke courses
We recognise that every organisation is different, so we work directly with organisations to develop bespoke courses. This course can be developed in a modular format to allow for flexible remote delivery to suit your needs. The modular approach will also allow for time between modules to apply the learning and reflect with colleagues and trainers.
