You vs Train - Talk to Teens About Rail Safety
Trespass has always been a cause of serious concern for the railways. Hundreds of people each year unintentionally take on the railway and lose. The railway’s full of hidden dangers. If you’re not hit by an unexpected train, you’ll be hit by the lethal current in rails and power lines. This is why Network Rail created the ‘You vs Train’ campaign in partnership with British Transport Police in summer 2018. The campaign has been focussed on young people and the number of incidents have significantly decreased year-on-year since its launch.
Last summer, as Britain emerged from the lockdown the railways saw a rise in trespass activity. As a result, a new You vs Train film, ‘Parallel Lines’ is being launched to get young people to think about the consequences of trespass.
To help combat the expected seasonal climb in trespass, the audience will be encouraged to not only think about the devasting consequences that their actions can have on them and their loved ones, but the wider, sometimes hidden harm caused to the community, in particular rail staff.
The new film will be streamed into schools on 18 March as part of a rail safety broadcast by Network Rail’s education partner LearnLive. The LearnLive website provides further information, including how to sign up for the broadcast.
