Measuring SFT in rails: Further trials of VERSE and DSG (RR-STR-95-040)

Last updated on 23 April 2013 10:00
This report details progress in the development of two methods of stress free temperature (SFT) measurement. The VERSE system is based on the measurement of the vertical rail stiffness which increases as the tension in the rail increases. The measurement is made with approximately 30 metres of rail unclipped.
