Identification of criteria of thermal cracking on wheel treads aiming at optimized brake system design

The thermal cracking mechanism on wheel tread has been estimated based on the consequence of the combination of full-scale experiments, material investigation and numerical analyses. The predominant factors of thermal cracking have been identified by the hypothesis verification experiments. The guidelines of brake system design will be drawn from them.
