New aspects of the dynamical effects on ballast fatigue and track settlement

In addition to low dynamic settlement laws expressing incremental settlement as a function of track deflexion and identified during early studies, an exponential relationship between the standard deviation of settlement and the sleeper acceleration is pointed out, and elements for understanding given by both laboratory results and discrete element modelling.
