Condition monitoring the design and testing of a commutation monitoring system (RR-ECS-001)

The measurement ( in service ) of the commutation of dc traction motors has previously been proposed as the most beneficial area of condition monitoring to investigate. The method recommended was to measure the radio frequency fields generated during the commutation process by placing an aerial inside the commutator chamber.
