The analysis of thrust & torque measurements on a microprocesser controlled layshaft transmission (IM-VS-018)

The cardan shaft of a Class 151 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) was instrumented to read thrust and torque. Gearbox shaft speeds were obtained from the existing speed probes (1). The results were obtained from numerous runs at the Mickleover Test Track from the 13th to the 15th April 1987.
