R & DD investigation into axlebox failures - BT10 bogie - MK III coach (IM-MF-024)

Last updated on 17 May 2013 3:19
The cause of the two service failures during 1977-78 was a sharp machining notch in a region of high stress caused by secondary bending of the spring pocket wall. Fatigue life predictions were made for the axlebox in the notched and smoothed condition, also for the short-lived BREL modified box.
