Residual stress measurements around unused rail bolt holes which have been cold expanded using the F.T.I. process (IM-MF-021)

Hoop residual stresses have been measured around bolt holes in new rails which have been cold expanded using the F.T.I. process. Significant compressive residual stresses had been induced which extended to about 17 mm from the hole surface.
