Optimisation of cell dimensions has shown that central sulphur tube cells based on the 33 mm 0.D. beta alumina electrolyte must be developed to an electrolyte length of at least 300 mm and a sulphur electrode thickness of at least 10 mm to obtain the optimum specific energy and cost.
