Broken rail at 49 m 308 yds : Newcastle-Berwick (TM-FM-053)

A thermit weld made in 113A FB rail in September 1973 failed from the outer edge of the weld collar on the underside of the foot in August 1974 and was sent together with its rail failure form (Ref. No. 74/6 BR21) to the R & D Division for examination.
