A theoretical estimation of the effect of 120' rails and 'perfect' rails on track quality (TN-SM-152)

A method of separating the contribution of the rail component of track roughness from the ballast and subgrade component is described. The technique is then used to explore the extent to which track quality may be expected to improve by reducing rail associated faults.
