Effects of Mt. Usu eruption on railway operation, and countermeasures adopted

Since March 28th, 2000, volcanic Mt. Usu has been active. Before noon on the 29th, a warning was issued that there would be the possibility of eruption within several days. At 13:08 of the 31st, Mt. Usu erupted for the first time since August 1977, an interval of 23 years.
