Lateral stability analysis of ladder sleeper track systems

The Railway Technical Research Institute of Japan is evaluating a unique ballasted rail-track system. The system consists of pre-stressed concrete sleepers placed parallel to the rails with one sleeper under each rail. Transverse sleeper spacing is maintained by heavy metal pipes cast between the sleepers at approximately three meter intervals.
