In a parametric study Hunt, in his report on the EUROBALT II project, shows that track stiffness and its variation has a significant effect on the cost of maintenance. For optimum operational conditions he suggests that the stiffness should be in the range 150 kN/mm to 200 kN/mm (per sleeper)...
