An investigation of the adhesion improving properties of abrasive materials (IM-ADH-013)

Tests using the tribometer train have shown that there is an improvement in the level of adhesion between wheel and rail when abrasive fines or Chalford 95 sand are introduced into the wheel-rail contact zone. The improvement in adhesion with abrasive fines is less than the improvement produced with sand.
