Designing out platform legacy issues to optimize mobility in the station environment

A predefined 'built design' legacy exists within the Australian rail industry, created by a one hundred year functional life span demanded of rail infrastructure (VRIOGS 2011). As a consequence, issues pertaining to 'fit for purpose' of station design in the late 1900's now presents a challenge for modern rail operators.
