Flange wear on multiple unit trains (E-407)

17. None of the alterations made to the bogies (change of bogie centre pivot material, removal of brake gear, increased longitudinal clearances at axleboxes) was successful in reducing the flange force at the leading outer rail on severe curves, and cannot lead to a reduction in wear at this point.
