Continuous brakes on freight trains braking test on 16-ton minfit wagons with Ferodo VG.4 brake blocks (E-314)

As part of the programme of fitting continuous brakes to freight trains, it was decided to carry out some tests using non-metallic brake blocks, since the advantages claimed of higher coefficient of friction and longer life, and a possibility of reduced shocks on stopping, made then well worth a trial.
