The efficiency of the safety groove on cast iron cylinder covers (continued) (E-048)

As indicated in Report No. E.19 the bursting pressure of the present design of cylinder cover is 650 lb./sq.in. In Report E.3 it was found that the maximum pressure which could be supported by the piston was 800 lb/sq.in, thus showing that the safety groove did not fulfil its purpose.
