Withdrawal criteria for vertical/longitudinal splits in rail heads and webs (RR-MF-30)
Last updated on 31 March 2014 12:28
Rail failures from vertical/longitudinal splits in the head and web have been investigated theoretically, experimentally and in track. In isolation, web splits were found to be unlikely to propagate or show further buckling under normal traffic conditions. Head splits were shown to propagate under normal traffic conditions, although fairly slowly.
