Service failure of SkV and SkV-F thermit welds from Jan 1979 to May 1980 (TM-MET-66)

Following its introduction in 1972, the SkV thermit welding process (quick welding process with short preheat) has progressively replaced the preceding SmW process. In 1977 a modification to the SkV process became available in which the moulds were re-designed to produce a weld with a small collar, (see Fig 1).
