Report of derailments for the period 1 January 1996 to 31 March 1997 (RR-TRS-97-084)

Within the overall number of daily train movements on the railway, only a very small proportion result in derailments. In the 15 months covered by this report there were 152 derailments from all causes; this compares with the 15 to 20 thousand trains a day operated on the Railtrack network.
