The implications of computer technology for supervision

This paper discusses the effects of the introduction of the TOPS (Total Operating Processing System) technology in the rail industry and its effect upon the role of the supervisor. It is suggested that the role of the supervisor has not become more peripheral, in fact the role has merely changed.
