Concepts of fatigue and vigilance in relation to railway operation

This paper presents a conceptual framework to be used in increasing our understanding of fatigue and vigilance on the Railway. In order to do this, it is suggested that it is more useful to view train drivers as skilled information processors rather than as someone engaging in heavy physical work.
