Factors affecting trackbed maintenance requirements:A theoretical study

In general terms, it is known that certain factors, for example subgrade quality, influence the rate of trackbed deterioration. However, quantitative prediction is not normally attempted. This paper presents recent improvements to a spreadsheet-based predictive technique developed at the University of Nottingham, which models the build-up of differential settlement (i.e.
